Do I have to rent a villa before I can charter a catamaran with Secret Destinations?

Sailing in Mallorca, Balearic Islands, Mediterranean Spain

No. There is no obligation to rent a villa, you can simply just charter a catamaran with us instead. However many of our sailing clients really enjoy the convenience of having a base on land.

Where can I go in the chartered catamaran?

Charters are available from a single day to however many weeks you prefer - the choice is yours. A one week itinerary, for example, could take in the ports on the south eastern coast of Mallorca, and two week charters can either sail south-west to Ibiza and Formentera or north-east up to Minorca.

Well worth a visit is Puerto de Andraitx, a natural port surrounded by pine woods. Major attractions are its 16th century fortress and the ruins of the Sa Trapa Monastery nearby. Puerto de Andraitx is also the starting point for excursions to the beautiful island Isla Dragonera.

A visit to the nature reserve Island of Cabrera, just of the coast of Mallorca is a must. A permit is issued that allows you to moor for just 24hrs, but as there is nothing but peace, quiet and secluded little beaches, 24hrs is ample time for you to walk up to the lookout where a fantastic view and photo location awaits you.

What type of charter is best for me?

You can choose from a range of luxury catamarans which are available either bare boat, skippered or fully crewed - setting you free to explore the beauty of turquoise seas, stretches of white sandy beaches and secluded coves.

Bareboat charters:
You will need to have a skipper onboard who is able to sail the catamaran unaided. Sailing qualifications are sometimes essential which should be a minimum of coastal skipper or International Certificate of Competence (ICOC).

Skippered Charter:
This is just like a bareboat charter, but with a qualified skipper provided for you. This would be best for you if you have some sailing experience but lack the qualifications or charter experience.

Crewed Charter:
With a crewed charter you will have a qualified skipper that will take care of the catamaran and a hostess that will take care of you. The hostess will prepare your meals and generally look after you. You can participate in as much or as little sailing as you like. A crew preference form will be sent out to you and this will outline your food likes/dislikes, what you would like to do during your sailing holiday and most importantly what you want stocked in your bar!

What's the weather like for sailing?:

The Balearic Islands are one of the Mediterranean's most accessible destinations with an idyllic, long season of sailing from early spring into autumn. The Balearic Islands enjoy an excellent climate with some 300 days of sunshine per year. A blend of wonderful beaches, a rich culture and friendly hospitality of the locals make the Balearic Islands one of the preferred charter destinations in Spain.

Generally, the east coast of Mallorca has north-westerly breezes of force 3-4. On the west coast the wind blows from the south-east force 2-3. Expect on-shore breezes on the northern coast while in the south the wind tends to funnel into the larger bays. The stronger, north-westerly Mistral in August can last for 2-3 days.
