La Palma Beaches - Overview:
There are two beach resorts on the island of La Palma, one on the east coast, south of Santa Cruz at Los Cancajos, and on the west coast at Puerto Naos. Puerto Naos enjoys the most sunshine and there are quieter beaches, including one naturist beach, located to the south of the town.
La Palma Beaches - Los Cancajos:
The beach at Playa de los Cancajos is fairly wide and consists of three small bays nestled within the rocky coves of the coastline. Made of fine volcanic sand, which is characteristic of the island, the beach at Playa de los Cancajos has been awarded the European Blue Flag for excellence and with its crystal clear waters protected by wavebreakers, the conditions are safe for swimming.
There is also a playground on the beach for children. Playa de los Cancajos is known as one of the best places on La Palma to dive and snorkel, and the sub-tropical waters with their deep coves and tunnels are home to a stunning array of trumpet fish, rays, barracudas and turtles.
La Palma Beaches - Puerto Naos:
The volcanic beach at Puerto Naos is the main attraction of the resort the expanse of black sand stretches for 500m along the coast, and is the longest beach on the island of La Palma. The beach is great for sunbathing and is backed by attractive trees that offer much needed shade. This area of the coast is renowned for its wonderful sandy beaches, with Playa de Charco Verde nearby and Playa de las Monjas, the only naturist beach on La Palma, just south of the resort.
La Palma Beaches - Brena Alta and Brena Baja:
Brena Alta has a fishing port, and there is an artificial beach in Bajamar. Brena Baja's beach resort of Playa de los Cancajos is ideal for those looking for some relaxing sunbathing on La Palma. Visitors staying at Brena Baja use the volcanic sandy beach at Playa de los Cancajos, the largest tourist development on the island.
The beach is made up of a series of three bays set into the rocky coastline, and the protected crystal waters provide excellent conditions for swimming and paddling. Diving and snorkelling are highly recommended at Brena Baja, with the sub-tropical waters being home to a wealth of undersea life.
La Palma Beaches - Las Indias:
This area of La Palma has 4 beaches: La Zamora, Punta Larga, Echentive and Las Cabras.
La Palma Beaches - Los Canarios:
Los Canarios, otherwise formerly known as Fuencaliente, is located on the very southern tip of La Palma, and is an area rich in volcanic activity, with a series of unusual black beaches.The coastline of Los Canarios (Fuencaliente) consists of a series of small coves and beaches all with the characteristic black sand of the volcanic region. One of the best beaches is La Zamora, a quiet and fairly isolated beach, comprised of black sand and pebbles. Other beaches in the area include Punta Largo, Playa Nueva and El Faro. The stretch of coastline is one of the best on La Palma for SCUBA diving, and is home to some incredible black coral amongst the underground caverns.
La Palma Beaches - Tazacorte:
Tazacorte is situated on the west side of La Palma and claims to be the warmest place on the island. It is divided into two areas: The port and the village. Puerto de Tazacorte is on the coast and has a long promenade, a fishing harbour a black sand beach, narrow streets lined with colourful old La Palma houses and a boulevard with bars and seafood restaurants.
