La Restinga - Overview:
This little fishing village is situated at the south eastern tip of El Hierro, the southern-most point of the Canary Islands. The weather here is normally good with more than 320 days a year with sunshine.
La Restinga has a small selection of bars, fish restaurants, a few shops, and is an ideal location for a 'get away from it all' holiday in a typical Canarian fishing village.
La Restinga - Coastline:
Approaching La Restinga by road is a little like landing in a helicopter. You see it thousands of feet below, and then you descend. Its safe harbour is dotted with small fishing boats bobbing at their moorings and hiding behind a massive sea-wall.
The sea to the west of La Restinga is protected from the prevailing winds by the cliffs and is known as Mar de las Calmas (calm sea). It has been declared an underwater national park and is a popular place for SCUBA diving.
There is only a very small beach in the harbour of La Restinga but along this coast are other small remote beaches and swimming places from the rocks at Cala de Tacaron. The small beach at La Restinga has black sand. There was once a small beach with white sand (Arenas Blancas) but this was before the port was built. But then again most visitors to La Restinga tend to be more interested in what lies beneath the surface of the ocean rather than the appearance of the coastline. To reflect this popularity La Restinga is home to no less than nine dive centres.

The pine forests of El Pinar are a short drive away. The area is an absolute haven for nature lovers with a vast array of beautiful flora and fauna to discover.
