Las Playas
Las Playas - Overview:
The imposing shape of the Roque de la Bonanza comes into view where the bay of Las Playas starts. A rocky formation which rises 200 metres straight up from the ocean bed, it is one of the most-photographed sights on El Hierro, appearing in a multitude of books, guides and post-cards.
Las Playas is in a heavenly setting, where the ocean and the volcanic mountains meet. Two viewpoints, 1000 metres high on the east ridge, over-look Las Playas and the Atlantic coastline. From here you can see just how isolated the Parador de El Hierro really is. Valverde, the capital of the island is just 20km away from Las Playas.
A good local walking trail is the Camino de El Pinar - Vereda del Risco - Camino de las Playas. It starts at the village of Isora and passes down to Las Playas, taking in some of the pine forest and the spectacular views from Mirador Isora.
