O Grove, Galicia
O Grove - Overview:
O Grove is a typical Galician fishing port situated on the north coast of a pretty little peninsula, within the province of Pontevedra. Once an island it is now joined to the mainland by a narrow strip of beach and sand dunes. Overlooking the 'Ria de Arousa' and the Atlantic Ocean, O Grove is a paradise for those who love the coast and seafood. The town has 15,000 inhabitants and, although popular with Spanish visitors, the coastal area between Santiago and Vigo known as the Rias Bajas, receives very few foreign tourists.

O Grove - Out and about:
Joined to O Grove by a small bridge is the beautiful island of La Toja with a 9 hole golf course, olympic size swimming pool (open from July to early September), tennis courts and a famous thermal spa which are about 10 minutes' drive away from most of our O Grove properties. For our guests staying in properties without a swimming pool, we are pleased to offer two complimentary vouchers per week which can be used for the lovely pool in La Toja or the pool in San Vicente.
If you climb the Monte Siradella, you will see for yourself how this peninsula is surrounded by the sea. So it is not surprising that even at the height of the season it is easy to find a quiet spot on one of O Grove's many beautiful little sheltered beaches. And if you prefer a more lively atmosphere, the famous 3km long Lanzada beach is perfect for everything from volleyball to wind surfing.
If you want to explore this lovely area, it is possible to hire bicycles for the day or week, and further afield, day trips by car or bus to the delightful city of Santiago de Compostela, the Portuguese Peneda National Park, the unspoilt island paradises of Ons and Cies (by boat) or to the famous 'Costa de la Muerte' are perfectly feasable.
Galicia, often referred to as the 'Green North', is situated in the north-western corner of the Iberian peninsula, where fjord-like estuaries, rolling forest-covered hills and isolated beaches protected by ancient Celtic strongholds form the main features of the landscape. It is a region still steeped in rural tradition: - A land of superstitions, ghostly processions and magic rituals and on a more practical level it is of course also an area justly famous for its fish and seafood, for its local wines, for its spectacular coastline and for its generous and friendly inhabitants.
O Grove - Climate:
The O Grove peninsula has a good microclimate, experiencing more hours of sunshine than most of Northern Spain.
O Grove - San Vicente:
San Vicente has basic shopping with some shops and restaurants open only from June to September. The main shops and restaurants are located in O Grove, approximately 7km away. The San Vicente campsite has a swimming pool that our clients may use. It is open during July and August and only a walk or short drive away from most of our houses. The pool has a bar, terrace and restaurant. We are pleased to offer guests staying in our houses here two complimentary vouchers per week, which can be used for this pool or the La Toja pool.

O Grove - Muros & Noia:
Due west from Santiago lies the Ria of Muros and Noia, and the road to Finisterre. From Noia, a medieval fishing town with a Sunday market, the road winds along the northern edge of the Ria past Cruceiro de Roo. There are many sandy sheltered beaches along the coast to the pretty village of Muros. Beyond Muros the coastline becomes less populated and it is here that you will find Caldebarcos, a village at the northern end of the beautiful long bay of Carnota with a few fishing boats on its sandy beach.
O Grove - Corrubedo:
At the western tip of the next peninsula north of O Grove, Corrubedo is a fishing village with a small, sheltered beach in the pretty harbour. It is in the natural park of the Dunes of Corrubedo, a protected area of high sand dunes with lagoons, wildlife and the long beach of Ladeira. This is a beautiful unspoilt area, with hills covered with flowers where wild horses roam and there are spectacular views and enjoyable walks.
