Cambados - Overview:
Cambados is an attractive and very appealing Galician town, located towards the entrance of the ria de Arousa in Pontevedra province. This area of Pontevedra province is a centre for wine production and Cambados is full of bars and specialist wine stockists selling the numerous vinos of the province.
Cambados is reached via the AP-9 toll road or the N-550 highway. Both these roads take you from the north or south of the region and avoid the much longer (but more scenic) coastal roads. The town is entered through a stone arch (through which were once the town�s secure walls) and upon entering the visitor is greeted by a magnificent stone prazo that is now a bodega.
The most notable structure of Cambados is the large plaza that is home to the fortified prazo de Fefinans and the adjacent elevated church. Together they create the main town square and represent classic examples of vast Galician granite architecture.
Behind and to the side of the church are a number of traditional granite houses whilst the main street (Calle Real) leading away from the square, continues the elegant theme with quality restaurants, enticing bars and wine cellers lining its walkways.
