Andratx - Location:

On the road to the mountains, which form the backdrop for much of the south west of Mallorca, you will discover the enchanting old market town of Andratx. Port d'Andratx is a popular but quiet resort situated on the south west tip of Mallorca. It has a popular marina with a natural port and is a magnet for yacht and boat owners world wide. It boasts some of the best restaurants on the island, with many small bars and bistros worth a visit. Andratx Town is a delightful place for a holiday, and an excellent base from which to explore Mallorca.

Andratx - Out and about:

Andraxt has a rich history and the Castle of Son Mas was defended against the invasion of pirates in 1578. One of its 3 defence towers is still standing. Son Orlandis, the largest farmstead of the municipality was restored in 1997 and another of the 3 defence towers is here. The third defence tower is at Son Esteva.

Andraxt is also home to the 13th century church of Santa Maria de Andratx. It has one single nave and is dedicated to San Bartolome and to Our Lady Dios de los Angeles.

Andratx - Nature:

Dragonera Natural Park, consisting of the Dragonera island and the islets Es Pantaleu and Na Mitjana, is situated in the west of Mallorca, facing Sant Elm. Even though the Natural Park is named sa Dragonera, it also includes the islet of Pantaleu, the island Mitjana and els Calafats within its protected area. They are very valuable conservation areas due to their magnificent natural state.

The island of Dragonera is 4km long, and up to 1km wide, covering an area of 300 hectares, It is 700 metres from the coast of Mallorca and is separated from the island by a channel 'Es Freu'. Due to its strategic situation, Sa Dragoner attracted pirates and smugglers throughout history, creating many legends. The island of Sa Dragonera is, geologically, the continuation of the Mallorcan Serra de Tramuntana and has belonged to the Mallorca Council since 1987. Those wishing to reach the island by private boat must make an official request with the Mallorcan Council.

Close to the natural port of Cala Llado there is a restored house used as a small museum for the park, visitors' centre and caretaker's house. From this point you can walk as far as the Puig de sa Popia, the highest point on Mallorca; to the Tramuntana lighthouse, the north east point of the island and to the Llebeig lighthouse at the extreme south west of the island. Other interesting places to visit near to Adraxt are the Cova des Moro, a large cavity with small lakes, the talayot near Cala Llado and Roman remains in the Cova de sa Font.

The climate is Mediterranean semi-arid, with an average temperature between 17-18 degrees centigrade, with an annual average rainfall of 350mm. The most intense rain fall between September and December.
