Mancor

Mancor - History:
Originally the municipality of Mancor consisted of four farmsteads: Mancor, Biniatzent, Biniarroi, and Massanella. These farmsteads belonged to Selva from 1248 until 1913, when the parish church of Sant Joan Baptista de Mancor was built. When the municipality gained its independence from Selva in 1925, it was given the Spanish name of Mancor del Valle. In 1984, the name officially changed to Mancor de la Vall, but the simple name Mancor is still the popular name of the village.
Mancor - Places of interest:
Of special architectural interest in Mancor de la Vall is the chapel of Santa Llucia, first documented in 1348. Of all the rural churches which were built after the conquest by Jaime I, and which have survived the passing of time, the one dedicated to Sant Llucia is the humblest of them all.
Sa Tafona de Son Morro and the manor house are well worth a visit. This historic olive press was built in the 17th century and has continued to work since then without any modifications. It is therefore considered to be of great historical interest.
Another place of interest you may like to visit in Mancor is the estate of Massanella and the uninhabited hamlet of Massanella. It is easily accessed on the southern slope of the Massanella mountain.
Other places of architectural interest in Mancor include the manor house of Can Marquesi, which has a Renaissance-style window over the entrance door, right in the middle of the facade; the manor house of Son Lluc, on the main street; Son Collell, which for many years housed the town hall, and which still retains a small chapel; Son Simo, a manor house which gives its name to the street where it is situated; Son Tafona, where doctor Joan Josep Amengual, writer and philosopher, was born in 1796; Cas Vellaco, located on the calle Major; and Toritxan, which today houses the restaurant Can Jano.
Mancor - Walking, hiking and nature:
Nature lovers may enjoy a trip to Penyal de Montaura. This 345 metre high hill belongs to Mallorca's Tramuntana mountain range, and it is located between the Puig de Son Bosca and the Fornan plain.
A popular route for walkers and hikers starts from Lloseta, taking the road to the ancient village of Mancor. You pass through Biniamar and S'Hort de Can Pau. From Mancor de la Vall you have a 2km climb to the Hermitage of Santa Llucia but once there you can enjoy a beautiful view of the bay of Alcudia the plains of Muro and Campanet, the mountain of Santa Magdalena and the town of Inca. Retracing your steps you will cover a total distance of sixteen kilometres.
