Spain Beaches -
Costa Brava

Spain Beaches - Costa Brava - Overview:
The Costa Brava (literally translated as 'wild coast') is located in the eastern corner of Spain. It is a picture-postcard area where mountains and the Mediterranean come together. Forested hills and rugged stone cliffs hug coves that shelter tiny fishing villages and crescent beaches.
Spain Beaches - Costa Brava - Calella:
Calella de Palagrugell is the largest of Palafrugell's beach resorts and consists of a series of pretty coves strung out like pearls behind a fishing village with whitewashed arches on the promenade. Fishing boats are pulled up on the sand and the seafood restaurants beside the water are always busy. High above the bay the Jardin Botanic de Cap Roig is a botanical garden with stunning views.
Regarded by many as the most beautiful resort on the Spanish mainland, the traditional fishing village of Calella with its sandy coves and beaches has for many years provided a relaxing holiday destination for families from all over the world. A coastal walk from the botanical gardens and El Golfet beach to Calella's twin village Llafranc takes you along some of the Costa Brava's most picturesque bays. These pathways have been used for various purposes throughout history; to get to the coves if a ship was sinking, to watch the horizon to prevent pirate raids and even transport contraband after the Spanish civil war. The beaches, restaurants, bars and small shops in the villages make this walk an absolute delight. Take a walk or bicycle ride into the woods and fields behind the coast and you enter a tranquil rural world.
Spain Beaches - Costa Brava - Llafranc:
Llafranc has one long curved beach protected by the pine covered hills surrounding it. The beach gently slopes into the sea which is ideal for children's bathing. Behind the beach on a tree lined avenue there are numerous small cafes and bars.
Spain Beaches - Costa Brava - Tamariu:
Tamariu beach extends nearly all around the bay, is very clean and nearly all fine golden sand. The crystal clear water is ideal for swimming as the beach, especially on the right hand side, shelves at a fairly gentle angle. During the main summer season, you can rent various sailing boats, pedaloes and canoes.
The waters around this area are believed to be the purest on the coast and there are many other beautiful beaches within easy reach.
Just a few miles north you will find the Cape of Begur with the beaches of Fornells, Sa Tuna, Sa Riera and the never to be forgotten scenery of Aigua Blava. This area consists of a huge geological mass dropping down to the sea in vertical cliffs and because of the height of the mountains and the density of the pine tree cover, the whole area has immense natural beauty.
