Costa de Azahar, Valencia - Peniscola:
One of the most interesting coastal towns in the region, Peniscola, is an ancient fortress town, with a history going back to the Phoenicians. The castle at Peniscola, built by the Knights Templar, is famous for being the base of the heretic Pope, Papa Luna, in the 15th Century and was the setting for the final scenes of the film El Cid.
Costa de Azahar, Valencia - Alcossebre:
To the south of Peniscola you will find Alcossebre - one of the most pleasant small resorts on Spain's Mediterranean coast.
Backed by hills covered with pine trees Alcossebre has superb sandy beaches in small bays which stretch south for miles along the Mediterranean coast. The resort has a busy little harbour full of yachts and is large enough to have a good selection of shops, bars, restaurants and a water park without being over-run by high rise development and mass tourism.
